A biopsy is simply the removal of a tissue sample that looks abnormal to determine if it is disease. In dentistry, teeth and intraoral soft tissue can be sent for biopsy if there is a sign of change from the normal aspect. The role of a biopsy in the dental industry is to diagnose oral cancer, or to confirm a diagnostic. In most cases an incisional biopsy is used to collect the tissue that requires further attention.
If you have suspicious lesions in your mouth, they need to be examined by Dr.Burlacu. In our office, quite often the biopsy is done in conjunction with the Velscope examination.
