BOTOX® Therapeutic Treatment
What is BOTOX®?
BOTOX® is a purified protein that is made from a type of bacteria called Clostridium botulinum. Its medical potential was discovered in the late 1960s, and its use increased sky-high.
BOTOX® (onabotulinumtoxinA) is a prescription medicine that is injected into the muscles to prevent headaches in adults with chronic headaches or migraine who have 15 or more days each month with headache lasting 4 or more hours each day in people 18 years or older.
It may take few days to 2 weeks to see a response. In clinical trials, patients showed a response at their 4-week evaluation. After 2 treatments (at 16 weeks), BOTOX® was proven to reduce headache days each month vs placebo.
Not knowing when a headache or migraine will occur can be challenging. While other treatments may help you once you already have a headache, a preventive medication like BOTOX® therapy is approved to help prevent headache days. BOTOX® therapy is injected by a doctor every 12-16 weeks. After 2 treatment sessions you may be able to start experiencing fewer headache days too!
For your doctor to determine if you’re experiencing headaches /Chronic Migraine, and to see if BOTOX® therapy may be right for you, it’s important for her to understand your headache days. You can track your headache/migraine history and how your headaches/migraines may be affecting your daily life.
