Porcelain Veneers

What are Porcelain Veneers?
A porcelain veneer is made from ultra-thin porcelain material and designed to improve the appearance of a person’s teeth. Porcelain veneers are customized to suit the patient’s ideal shape, size, and shade. Once this is established, the veneer is cemented to the surface of the teeth. Porcelain veneers at at Access Dental in Kelowna are used to improve many aspects of a patient’s smile such as tooth discoloration, broken or chipped teeth, worn out enamel and irregular teeth gaps.

Porcelain Veneer Near You
At Access Dental in Kelowna, booking a consultation is the first step in the process of improving your smile with porcelain veneers. During this consultation, most of the details are established in terms of expectations and ideals. The patient will be color matched and discuss the size and shape they envision. Based on these details, your dentist will be able to craft porcelain veneers that are custom to your preferences.
You will be asked questions regarding your goals such as ‘What do you expect your teeth to look like? What is the most important characteristic?’
Your dentist will then proceed with a comprehensive smile analysis, examining your entire mouth. The information obtained is stored in a computer and sent to the lab to process your customized veneers.

Why Porcelain Veneers?
Porcelain veneers are desired by patients not only for their ability to enhance a person’s smile but also because they are able to resist stains better than resin veneers and mimic the light reflecting properties of natural teeth a lot better than other veneer options.
To prepare a tooth for the placement of a porcelain veneer, your dentist will remove about 1/2 millimeter of enamel from the surface of your teeth, which will be compensated by the thickness of the veneer added to the tooth’s surface. Before any of this occurs, your dentist will administer a local anesthetic to numb the area and relax the patient.

Thereafter, your dentist at Access Dental in Kelowna will take an impression of your teeth. This impression is sent to a dental laboratory for fabrication.
Are You a Candidate?
This is determined by your dentist after the preliminary consultation. Your dentist would suggest something different if, after the meeting, you discover that porcelain veneers are not ideal for your situation.

What to Expect
You would go through two phases in the treatment and this shouldn’t take more than two to three visits. The first phase is the diagnostic phase where the dentist examines your mouth thoroughly and addresses any oral health challenge that may affect the treatment process. The second stage will involve fitting and placement of the permanent porcelain veneers on the teeth.

Maintenance of Porcelain Veneers
No special skills are required. To maintain your veneers, treat them as you would your natural teeth. Regular brushing and flossing is vital to ensure your porcelain veneers last for a long time.
You may be required to visit the dentist within 14 days of placing the veneers just to be sure they are in good condition during your adjustment. If you have more questions about this procedure, contact at Access Dental in Kelowna today.
